CELEBRITY SPOTTING AT THE 2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Ellie Killick

It’s been just under a week since Charles Leclerc was crowned champion at his home race at the Circuit de Monaco. The Grand Prix weekend is always a star studded affair with celebrities from athletes to actors, singers to influencers and everyone in between descending onto the track. Let’s have a look at which A-Listers graced the grid before lights out!

Nicholas Galitzine

‘Red, White and Royal Blue’s’ Prince of England, Nicholas Galitzine, took a trip over to Monaco to watch the Prince of Monaco cross the line in first place. Galitzine was selected to hand over the Pirelli Pole Position tyre to Charles Leclerc on Saturday. The ‘Idea of You’ star was at the race as a guest of Red Bull and TAG Heuer, so far only one promotional video has been released with Galitzine putting his ‘superfan’ knowledge of Sergio Perez to the test!

Alongside him were American actress Alexandra Daddario and model Kelsey Merritt.

Joe Jonas

Was this the reason the Jonas Brothers had to reschedule the WHOLE European leg of their tour?! Well no but 1/3 of the Jonas Brothers, Joe Jonas, did manage to take a weekend off of whatever the band are doing instead of touring to take a trip to Monaco.

In an interview with Martin Brundle on the Grid, Joe explained how he is “friendly with Pierre” referring to the Alpine driver, Pierre Gasly, who he hoped would have a good race. Fortunately for him, Gasly picked up his first points of the season, perhaps the brothers are good luck charms for the French driver!

Anya Taylor-Joy

The British-American actress was in Monaco to support her “wonderful friend and absolute legend” – Lewis Hamilton, who finished in P7. Again talking to Brundle, Taylor-Joy shared how this was her first time on a Formula One grid, but she had grown up watching the sport with her parents so was very excited to be there.

The actress is most famous for The Queen’s Gambit, but has been in many a show including Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga which came out just two days before the race.

Kyle Kuzma and Winnie Harlow

American Basketballer, Kyle Kuzma, and Canadian fashion model, Winnie Harlow, were pictured together on the grid prior to the race. Post-race Harlow took to her Instagram cleverly captioning her post” Siri play Fast Car 🏎️💨” giving a nod to the Tracy Champan classic and Jonas Blue summer banger.

Kylian Mbappe

Just a day after playing his final game for PSG, Kylian Mbappe found himself in a very uncomfortable situation. Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle was initially brushed aside by the Frenchman’s body guard, but after claiming the now viral quote of “I’m in charge around here” managed to get a few words out of the hesitant footballer.

The now free-agent footballer had the responsibility of waving the chequered flag at the end of the race which greeted the home hero, Leclerc.

Virgil van Dijk

Sticking with the footballer theme, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was also on the grid as a guest of Red Bull. The Dutchman watched on his fellow countryman from the Red Bull pits – but Max Verstappen was unable to finish any higher than 6th.

John Legend

The piano ‘Legend’ himself attended and performed at the Monaco Grand Prix. John performed at the Marriott Bonvoy for guests and at the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team’s co-hosted ‘A Legendary Affair’ party aboard Evrima of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

The singer also posted a picture on his Instagram of himself and Hamilton suggesting he may have been supporting the Silver Arrows.

Michael Douglas

From one legend to another, the highly accomplished American actor and film producer was spotted walking along the flooded grid. In a more wholesome interview with Brundle, Douglas spend most of the time speaking about his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is currently shooting the new season of Wednesday.

Princess Charlene of Monaco

Our Prince of Monaco may have won the race, but the actual Princess Charlene of Monaco was an on-watcher of the prestigious event. She was accompanied by Prince Albert II of Monaco who both seemed happy with the end result!

Diplo

The F1 grid really did have representation of all major professions. American DJ and music producer Diplo was spotted walking down the grid, though I’m not sure how much of the cars he actually would’ve seen with the huge array of people!

Diplo spent the evening back in his comfort zone DJing where he took a selfie with fellow DJ and part-time F1 driver, Lando Norris!

Why does Monaco attract so many celebrities?!

This is only a small portion of the many celebrities that travelled to Monaco last weekend, but why is it so popular with A-listers?!

Well Formula One in its own right always has a large attraction for famous people and influencers due to it adrenaline rush; but Monaco is the one everyone wants to attend despite the somewhat boring race. This is purely due to the charm and prestige associated with the race, along with the fact it’s held at one of the world's most luxurious and exclusive travel destinations… it’s not every day you get transported to the race on a boat!

I for one look forward to seeing who manages to get the priceless grid pass next season!
