F1 Academy has revealed the Wild Card entry for the Championship's second round this weekend in Miami, Florida. American racer Courtney Crone will join the grid supported by reigning Teams' Champions PREMA Racing and shoppable entertainment retailer QVC.
The Wild Card initiative was introduced for this season to help strengthen the talent pool in the regions where the series races, supported by regional partners. Crone will take to the track at the Miami International Autodrome in a special QVC-branded livery.
The 23 year-old driver got behind the wheel of an F1 Academy car for the first time just two weeks ago at the world famous Circuit Zandvoort as part of an official F1 Academy test event spanning two days. PREMA have also been preparing the driver for her series debut by providing her with training and support alongside the team's full-time lineup of Tina Hausmann, Maya Weug and Doriane Pin.
Hailing from Corona, California, Crone began her racing journey in karts at age 3, going on to find success in various motorsport disciplines including Sprint Cars, LMP3 prototypes, speedway motorcycles, and most recently Lamborghini Super Trofeo.
This weekend she will be one of three F1 Academy competitors enjoying some home racing this weekend, as Haas/Campos driver Chloe Chambers and Williams/ART Grand Prix driver Lia Block will both be out on track too. There are high hopes that this talented trio will help to inspire young women across the USA to get involved in racing.
Speaking about being the F1 Academy Wild Card entry in Miami, Courtney Crone, said: “It’s a huge opportunity that F1 Academy is giving drivers through Wild Card entries, especially in America. It can be difficult for young girls from outside Europe to know how to get into international series like this, and the support that I’ve been given by F1 Academy, and the PREMA Racing team, has been hugely positive for me. I’d also like to say thank you to QVC for their support of the Wild Card initiative here in Miami. I think this is an amazing opportunity to grow both this series and the sport.”
