In a press release this week, F1 Academy has announced that the final round of the 2023 season in Austin, Texas will be broadcasted live to over 100 different territories internationally. It is the only race of the 2023 season to be broadcasted, setting the precedent ahead of the 2024 season in which every round will be broadcasted.
Following six rounds of racing, the first ever F1 Academy champion will be decided at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). The current championship leader Marta García is the current favourite to claim the title, however the three races per F1 academy round means it is not 100% guaranteed for García. Lena Bühler and Hamda Al Qubaisi, who are currently in P2 and P3, are still hot on her heels. The rest of the drivers are also very close in points so there is potential for the rest of the standings to have a complete re-shuffle.
The final race weekend, starting on Friday the 20th of October, aligns with Round 19 of the Formula 1 calendar at COTA, which is sure to bring a lot of buzz and exposure to the new all-female category. Fans will be able to tune in from all across the world will be able to tune into both F1 academy qualifying sessions as well as all 3 races, accompanied by 3 separate live pre-race shows.
The first live international broadcast of the series is another major milestone reached in its inaugural season, following the news that the series shall align with the F1 calendar in 2024 , plus commitment from all 10 F1 teams to nominate an F1 academy driver to represent them. Each F1 team will also have their livery on one of the F1 Academy cars.
