Hello and welcome to the first ever Girls Across The Grid blog! It seems crazy for me to be writing this. Did I ever think that only 3 months ago when we officially launched this community I would now be writing the opening post to our new member-led blog? Most definitely not!
Girls Across The Grid is special to me for so many reasons; I was going through a pretty tough time when I decided to set up the group. I felt like I was at a different place in life to a lot of my friends, we had different hobbies and enjoyed spending our time in different ways - which is okay! It is a part of growing up (and dare I say a part of getting older, as I approach 30). The idea for Girls Across The Grid came about as I wanted some friends to chat about Formula 1 with - I felt fairly alone in my passion for Formula 1, only really having one or two family members to talk with about the sport. A lot of the members in our group can relate, trying to find female fans in a fairly male dominated sport is not easy - and a lot are met with pre-conceptions and judgement over their real interest in the sport.
We started as Guenthers Grid Gorls (shoutout to the OG girls!), but as we saw engagement across social platforms climb, and the members growing quickly, we realised there was a real opportunity to provide a safe social space for women that have an interest in motorsports. I spent evenings and weekends working on forming Girls Across The Grid, had 100 different ideas, 100 different meltdowns and bounced even more ideas off a few girls I met through the group!
Since starting GATG I have attended and organised so many race meets, had a few weekends away and met some genuine friends for life - I’m so excited to have created this community, and can only hope that all our members find the same happiness within GATG that I have!
We decided to launch this blog for all to read, to gain a female perspective on different motorsport topics. This blog has been created for our members to publish written articles about topics of their choice, writing race previews, reviews and so much more. This will hopefully help those aspiring to a career in motorsports writing, to gain experience and showcase their work on our platform. We’re also excited to publish articles from those who just want to share their voice!
I am so pleased to be able to post today and officially open up our blog - and I am even more excited for you to see what we have to come!
If you have any ideas for our blog - send us an email at enquiries@girlsacrossthegrid.com for more information.
2023 is GATG’s year, you don’t want to miss it!
